The Onset Youth Center was incorporated in 1950, before the building was built. The land that the Onset Youth Center is located on was bought in 1950 with funds donated in memory of those killed or injured in the explosion in Onset in 1946 at Christy's Spa, on Highland Ave.  The Board of Directors, along with members of the community, began building the youth center in 1951. It took many years of hard work and labor before the building was completed.

The building was used for many different youth programs to work with the children of Onset and the surrounding areas. There were tap dancing, tumbling and aerobics, ceramics, boxing, wrestling, and judo classes run out of the building. The Gateway Players used to meet and have plays in the building. Also, Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs and dens met in the building.

The organization dissolved in 1970, and was reincorporated in 1971.

Dec.2005, we have started the first phase of our reconstruction project. The front foundation wall was dug and replaced.  We are working with several local contractors and raising the funds to fully renovate and put an addition on the back of the building. Any money raised over the cost of the renovations will go toward operating equipment and supplies, as well as operating costs and program support.

UPDATE: April,2006 fundraising has continued. July some clearing has taken place and Aug.11,2006 Renovations have begun!
