Information Update

Al St. John teamed up with American Masonry and K&M Builders.  They started digging out and replacing the front foundation wall and sill as needed.  We received the preliminary  plans from the architectural firm, G&S Design Group on Thursday January 18, 2006. We are now starting with the second step of the project.  We are working up the estimate, filing for grants and taking in donations. The board of directors would like to thank the Cape Verdean Association for there $500.00 donation and the Higgins family for there $2500.00 donation towards this project.

Onset Youth Center, Inc. Revitalization Program! A Board of Directors was formed in 1950 with nothing but a vision. It took a lot of time and hard work for the people of our communities to come together to build and open the Onset Youth Center. Growing up as children it gave us a place to go, programs to be involved in that kept us, involved with the community, built character, good citizens and kept us out of trouble. It is time for us to step up to the plate and give back to the community what they gave to us. So let’s show that our ancestors built a better and stronger community!

We are currently looking for any energetic people with new ideas to become committee members and volunteers who can help in the many areas we have to cover. Such as building renovation and expansion, programs and operations, fund raising and public relations.

Onset Youth Center, Inc. Objectives: future home of Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies, recreation center and other youth programs for the area.

The Board of Directors of the Onset Youth Center, Inc. would like to thank all those who signed up to volunteer to work on this project. We have a lot of people signed up so far to help on construction, along side several local contractors. We also have 4 more people to run programs, so we now have 9 programs to put into place, once the building is completed.

We would also like to thank all those who participated in our project kick off raffles and people that donated at our informational tables. We have started the long process with funds raisers.  We have had the lot surveyed and lot plans drawn up. The plans are now at the architect having the building plans drawn up, then they go on to the structural engineer for approval. Then we can work up the full estimated cost of this project.  Once that is complete, we will put up a thermometer to show the funds progress.  We want to let everybody know this process takes time. So we ask everybody to be patient with the work we are doing and progress we are achieving.
